Motor Vehicle LicensesAll vehicle licences have to be renewed annually at the Licensing Department offices, situated at the town hall in Napier Road.Enquiries in respect of motor vehicle licences and registration, as well as learners' and drivers' licences should be directed to The Chief: Licensing, P O Box 14013, 0140, Lyttelton. Tel:(012) 671 7357 / (012) 671 7449. Vehicle mass is determined at the testing grounds in Kruger Avenue, Lyttelton Manor Extension 4, and roadworthy test, if necessary, are also carried out there. Tel: (012) 671 7399. The new testing grounds in Nellmapius Drive (near Kentron) for roadworthy tests of light and heavy vehicles as well as weigh bridge. Tel: (012) 671 7522/23. |

Roadworthy CertificatesVehicles can be tested for roadworthy certificates from Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 13:00 and from 13:30 to 15:15.The cost for this service is R45,00 per motor vehicle or trailer and R20,00 per motorcycle. If the test is successful and a certificate is issued, another R10,00 is payable. If the test is not successful, the testing official will grant a further grace period not exceeding 14 days. No further cost will be payable.
