Boreholes

In terms of the Centurion Town Planning Schemes residents are required to obtain permission from the Health Department before sinking boreholes on their property. Permission will be granted if the sinking does not contravene the terms of the Title Deed, and on the following conditions :
  • No windpump may be erected on the borehole - only a noiseless electric pump. The erection of a pump, storage dam or tank, and the applicable safety measures, are subject to approval by the Town Electrical Engineer
  • The terms of the Council's Water By-laws and Uniform Public Health Services and any amendment to these By-laws should be adhered to at all times.
  • Should the water be used for a swimming pool, a proper filter and chlorine installation should be erected and maintained to the satisfaction of the Council.
  • The Council reserves the right to withdraw its consent at any time without compensation to the owner or resident if the Council should establish that the above conditions have not been met, or that the borehole water is polluted and / or poses a health hazard.
  • All boreholes should be protected to the satisfaction of the Chief : Health Services, and should be provided with a 10m lining.
Please note that borehole water could be polluted, particularly in areas previously served by septic tanks. Such borehole water is used entirely at your own risk. Tel: 671 7205
