GeneralThe SPCA renders a service on behalf of the Council with regard to stray, neglected or homeless animals.Contact: 664 5644
Residents may keep chickens and pigeons under certain conditions.
Enquiries in this regard can be directed to the Chief: Health Services.
In terms of the Traffic Ordinances, wild and dangerous animals (e.g. monkeys, snakes, bees - in fact,
any creature or insect which could be a danger or nuisance to human beings) may not be kept in the municipal area.
This also applies to dangerous dogs. Birds and animals may not be hunted and the destruction of bird nests is prohibited.
Complaints should be directed to the Traffic, Licensing and Security Department.
The Transvaal Nature Conservation Ordinance prohibits the keeping of indigenous wild animals or birds without a permit issued by the Department of Nature Conservation in Pretoria.

Dead AnimalsDead animals will be removed by the Health Services Department. If a stray dog, for example, has been run over in the street, the service is free of charge. If an animal has to be removed from the owner's premises however, a fee is payable. For enquiries please phone 671 7295. |
